While Believers are not under the law, The law does give some indication of the mind of God about morality. We know adultery, coveting, lying, stealing, killing, etc. is wrong because of the law. The law, however, cannot save nor empower you. Christ is the end of the law for everyone who believes.
“Therefore no one will be justified in His sight by works of the Law. For the Law merely brings awareness of sin” ~ Rom 3:20 “For sin was in the world before the Law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law.” ~ Rom 5:13 “So I discovered that the very commandment that was meant to bring life actually brought death.” ~ Rom 7:10 “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the Law.” ~ 1 Cor. 15:56 “Now if the ministry of death, which was engraved in letters on stone, . . . . . . . ” ~ 2 Cor. 3:7 “All who rely on works of the Law are under a curse. For it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." ~ Gal. 3:10 “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, . . . . “ Rom. 3:19 “All who sin apart from the Law will also perish apart from the Law, and all who sin under the Law will be judged by the Law.” ~ Rom 2:12 “But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, to redeem those under the Law, that we might receive our adoption as sons.” ~ Gal. 4:4-5 “Christ is the end of the Law, in order to bring righteousness to everyone who believes.” ~ Rom. 10:4 “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us. For it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." ~ Gal 3:13 Jesus warned us about false teaching, but it was never teachers of grace that He warned us against. Jesus warned us against the teachers of the law: In Matthew 16:6,11 & 12, Jesus said, “6 Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees & Sadducees. 11 Again I say, ‘Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’ 12 Then at last they understood that he wasn’t speaking about the leaven in bread, but about the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Who were the Pharisees? And what was the Leaven they were teaching? Footnotes in the Bible: Matthew 16:12 “Pharisees” means “separated ones” (separatists). It is believed that during the time of Jesus there were approximately six thousand Pharisees in Israel. They refused to have dealings with the common people, because they were separated to God. Jesus described them as religious frauds who loved money and wanted to be the final authority on all the doctrines that were taught to the people. They were not all priests, but zealous teachers of the law.” The Pharisees were zealous teachers of the law. They taught that following the law was what made you righteous & qualified for God’s blessing. That was the leaven they were teaching & that Jesus warned us about. We see this Truth very clearly in Galatians 5: 1 “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” NLT 4 If you seek to be justified and declared righteous and to be given a right standing with God through the Law, you are brought to nothing and so separated from Christ. You have fallen away from grace (from God’s gracious favor and unmerited blessing). 5 For we, [not relying on the Law but] through the [Holy] Spirit’s [help], by faith anticipate and wait for the blessing and good for which our righteousness and right standing with God causes us to hope. 6 For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith activated and energized and expressed and working through love. 7 You were running the race nobly. Who has interfered in (hindered and stopped you from) your heeding and following the Truth? 8 This [evil] persuasion is not from Him Who called you [Who invited you to freedom in Christ]. 9 A little LEAVEN (a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers) leavens the whole lump [it perverts the whole conception of faith & misleads the whole church]. AMP It’s not the teaching about God’s grace that Jesus warned us about, but the teaching that obedience to the law is what makes us righteous, acceptable, and blessed by God! The law could never make us righteous! That’s why we needed a Savior! And the only way we will ever live righteous lives is to embrace the gift of His perfect righteousness! “For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:17 NLT
