Allow me an attempt at bringing some clarity to the word "rest" as it applies to the New Covenant. Rest is not inactivity but Holy Spirit led activity.(Gal.5:18) The believer's rest is an internal disposition or posture that experiences peace even in the midst of trying outward circumstances. The work that the Lord has freed us from is the worry that has to figure everything out. Outward Christian work is a fruit that flows from a heart of rest. This is what the Psalmist meant when he declared that it is vain for a child of God to rise up early or stay up late for so He gives His beloved sleep.(Psalm 127:2) Jesus Himself was an early riser.(Mark 1:35) Psalm 127 verse 2 is talking of staying up late or getting up early to eat the bread of sorrows, or attempt to fix your problems with worry.(i.e. work) Enter into His rest by believing that Jesus has your back, front, side i.e. your entire being. In this manner you'll lie down, not being afraid, and your sleep will be sweet.(Proverbs 3:24) I just prayed that those who read this post will experience God's sweet sleep. You are deeply loved of the Lord.
