Why is doom & gloom easier to believe than a future & a hope?
It disagrees with God, it is not Good News. Jer. 29:11 - "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope" 2 Tim. 1:7 – “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Stephen Hawking (an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author at the University of Cambridge) calls for a return to the moon as Earth’s clock runs out: “We are running out of space, and the only place we can go to are other worlds. It is time to explore other solar systems,” he said via video link to the audience gathered in Trondheim, Norway. “Spreading out may be the only thing that saves us from ourselves. I am convinced that humans need to leave Earth.” This is such a load of bunk on so many different levels. Assuming the earth has just over 7 Billion people, and the whole population stood shoulder-to-shoulder (allowing 4 sq. ft./person) it would cover approx. 1,000 sq. mi. which is a little less than the area of Rhode Island, the smallest state in the USA. The population density of New York City is approx. 28,000 persons/sq. mi. and Paris is approx. 56,000 persons/sq.mi. That means the whole world could live in the state of Texas with the same population density of NYC, or the state of New Mexico, or the country of Norway, with the same population density of Paris. We are not running out of space, we don't need to leave the earth. In simple terms, that would make the rest of the world available for food & resource production. For instance, according to a Forbes magazine article "How Much Oil Does the World Have Left?" published June 25, 2015, the known reserves are estimated at over 1000 years, that doesn't take into account innovations in wind, solar, nuclear, biofuels, and resources yet to be discovered. We are not running out of resources, we don't need to leave the earth. According to The Economist magazine article, dated June 3, 2013, global poverty rate halved in the last 20 yrs. The Guardian had an article that quoted the World Bank saying that "extreme poverty" fell to the lowest point ever. This doesn't mean that poverty & starvation aren't still a problem, it just means there is progress being made. The world condition is not going backward. We are not running out of wealth, we don't need to leave the earth. The Huffpost published an article on May 2, 2012 quoting a study by McGill Univ. & Univ. of Minnesota that said that the world already grows enough food to feed 1 1/2 times everyone on the planet. Unfortunately, people making less than $2. a day, in resource-poor farming areas, can't afford to buy this food, or produce their own. Poverty is still a problem, but it is getting better. We are not running out of food, we don't have to leave the earth. The word of God is full of inspiring assurances of how God will provide for his followers: Luke 12:24 - “Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!” Matthew 6:31-32 – “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” 2 Corinthians 9:8 – “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” Philippians 4:19 – “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” 2 Peter 1:3 – “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,” Isaiah 11:9 - ". . . . for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea." Habakkuk 2;14 - "For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea." We have a ways to go. For me and my house, we’re going to believe God for a future & a hope. ~ Ted NelsonFor
